What We Do
Business Advisory for San Antonio Owners
Running a business generates a constant stream of decisions that hinge on numbers you may not have time to pull apart. Should you hire? Can you afford the lease? Is that contract actually profitable once you account for your own time?
Advisory work is where a CPA earns their keep. Not filing forms — helping you see what the numbers are telling you before the decision is made.
Who this is for
- Owners who are profitable on paper but never seem to have cash
- Businesses approaching a hire, a lease, a loan, or an acquisition
- Anyone who has outgrown guesswork but is not ready for a full-time CFO
- Owners planning an exit, a transition, or bringing in a partner
Cash flow, honestly
Profit and cash are different things, and the gap between them is where most small businesses get into trouble. Receivables stretch, inventory ties up capital, tax obligations accrue quietly in the background.
We build a clear picture of what is actually coming in and going out, when, and what that means for the decisions in front of you over the next few quarters.
Knowing what is actually profitable
Most owners have a strong instinct about which work makes money. That instinct is right about two-thirds of the time. The other third is expensive.
Breaking revenue down by service line, customer, or job usually surfaces at least one surprise — work that feels busy and productive but barely clears cost once labour and overhead are allocated properly. That is actionable information.
The decisions that need a second opinion
Taking on debt. Signing a multi-year lease. Bringing on a partner. Buying out a partner. Adding payroll. Each of these changes your tax position, your cash position, and your risk at the same time.
Having someone who already knows your books look at the numbers before you commit is worth considerably more than having them explain afterwards why it did not work.
Common questions
- How is this different from tax preparation?
- Tax preparation reports what already happened. Advisory work shapes what happens next. Most clients use both, and they reinforce each other — the same person who sees your numbers all year is the one preparing the return.
- Do I need to be a certain size?
- No. Some of the most valuable advisory work happens with owner-operators making their first hire. The questions are just as consequential at that scale.
- How often would we meet?
- It depends on what is happening. Some clients want a quarterly review; others check in when a specific decision comes up. We will suggest a rhythm that fits your business rather than sell you a fixed package.
