What We Do

Tax Preparation & Planning in San Antonio

Most people meet their tax preparer once a year, hand over a folder, and hope for the best. That is a reasonable way to file a return. It is a poor way to manage what you actually owe.

We prepare individual and business returns for clients across San Antonio, and we do the planning work in the months when it can still change the outcome. By the time a return is being typed up, most of the decisions that matter have already been made.

Who this is for

  • Individuals and families who want their return handled carefully and on time
  • Small-business owners filing Schedule C, partnership, or S-corp returns
  • Households with rental property, investment income, or multi-state exposure
  • Anyone who has fallen behind and needs to get current without judgment

Preparation, done properly

Every return starts with understanding what changed since last year — a move, a new business, a property sale, a marriage, a retirement. Those events drive the return far more than the forms themselves do.

You upload documents through a secure client portal rather than emailing sensitive records around. Questions get answered through secure chat, so the back-and-forth is documented and you are not chasing anyone by phone. Clients consistently tell us the responsiveness is the difference: answers in hours, not weeks.

Planning is where the money is

Planning means looking at the year ahead rather than the one that closed. Timing income and deductions, choosing the right retirement vehicle, deciding whether an equipment purchase belongs in this year or next, checking that estimated payments are sized correctly so you are not financing the IRS or writing a shock cheque in April.

For business owners, it also means revisiting entity choice as profit grows. The structure that was right at $60,000 of profit is often the wrong one at $200,000. That review is a conversation, not a form.

Behind, or facing a notice

Unfiled returns and IRS notices are more common than people assume, and they get worse with silence. We work through back years in order, deal with the correspondence directly, and get you back to current.

The goal is a clean slate and a plan that keeps you there.

Common questions

When should I start planning for next year?
As soon as this year's return is filed. The most useful moves — retirement contributions, timing decisions, entity changes, estimated payment adjustments — all need runway. By December, most doors have closed.
Do I need to come to the office?
No. Documents go through the secure portal and most clients handle everything remotely. If you would rather sit down in person, that is available too.
Can you handle returns in more than one state?
Yes. Texas has no state income tax, but if you moved here mid-year, kept property elsewhere, or earn income in another state, that state may still expect a return. Multi-state filings are routine here.
What do you need from me to get started?
Last year's return, this year's income documents, and a short conversation about anything that changed. We will send a specific list once we know your situation.
